Now and then, it’s a good idea to take stock of where you are in life, what you’re doing, and whether you feel you’re truly on the path created for you.
As a longtime resident of Hendricks County, I’ve enjoyed getting to know people and working with organizations here. I’ve handled a variety of roles, from running a local non-profit organization to helping charitable groups make the most of their resources and serve their missions. But I’ve always known there was more waiting for me.
In getting to know people and becoming familiar with local resources, I heard many people suggest that there weren’t enough mental health support services in our community, or at least counselors who brought a different approach to the healing process. My educational and professional background was as a therapist, so I certainly grasped what they were saying. I even saw the need for counselors in my work serving families.
Gradually, I realized there was a connection between what I had been hearing and what I was supposed to do. My (now) business partner and I were discussing the best way to meet the needs in our area, and we began to formulate the idea of a professional counseling center that would meet the demand with a different approach. We wanted to meet the need with experienced professionals who counsel using solutions rooted both in research and scripture. Experienced. Research-based. Truth-filled. It’s a different approach. And we believe it’s a desperately needed approach in today’s world.
We expanded our idea into a business plan. We began to talk with professionals, clergy, social services providers, and others in the community and were able to confirm that there was a demand for what we were envisioning. After extensive planning, hard work, and plenty of prayer, Care to Change was created. Our goal? To help individuals and families maximize their God-given potential by providing Biblically based counseling and life-changing solutions.
Today I see children, parents, adolescent girls, victims of abuse and trauma, adults, and yes, I even see couples. I see the person who works at the local supermarket, the business owner, the church leader, and maybe even your next-door neighbor. While my clients come from all walks of life, they all have something in common. They want a better life for themselves and they want to live bravely, in wholeness and freedom. I won’t say that the work is easy, but it is tremendously satisfying.
